Description
The Valley View Avenue Grade Separation eliminated the existing at-grade crossing between the Metrolink/BNSF tracks and Valley View Avenue. To separate the railway and road, a new 208 feet, four span undercrossing bridge was constructed, while the existing road was lowered. In addition, the change to the storm water run off paths required new storm drain systems to be installed to alleviate the demand on La Mirada Creek during heavy rains. Ultimately this project alleviated traffic incurred by the crossing of trains through a major arterial road.
Services
PreScience provided CM Services including: Resident Engineering and Structure Representative, Quality Assurance with Resident Engineering and Administrative Support Services.
Challenges
The major challenge of the project was staging construction so that bypass (shoofly) tracks and a temporary four-lane roadway could maintain traffic through the intersection during construction. Additionally, overhead power lines presented issues, which required PreScience to redesign the stage construction plans.
